“As a social worker in an outpatient cancer center, I am all too familiar with the tremendous ‘ripple effect’ that a diagnosis of cancer can have on nearly every aspect of a cancer patient’s life. In addition to dealing with treatment side-effects, cancer patients may also find themselves faced with job discrimination in the workplace, problems with insurance coverage, housing difficulties related to the onset of new disabilities or financial hardship, the need to urgently plan for their own and their families futures (e.g. custody, living will, estate and health care proxy) and a host of other issues.
When my patients are faced with legal needs and/or difficulties, I am grateful that I have the wonderful team of attorneys at NYLAG available to assist them. Whether it’s a young mother with an infant whose landlord refuses to get her a working refrigerator or a gentleman whose Medicaid has been terminated without warning, I know that the specialists at NYLAG will get the job done in a caring and supportive manner. I think I speak for myself and my colleagues in thanking NYLAG for the wonderful advocacy work they provide on behalf of our patients. All cancer patients should have access to a service like this.”
